Do You Want Fries With That?

Fries

So you went through all this work for your web site - planning, editing, re-planning, posting, changing graphics, and planning again. You are sure that the visitors will just love the site and settle in for an afternoon three hour tour of your exciting, engaging web site. Maybe they will, maybe they won't, depends what the special of the day is.

Let's face it - we live in a fast paced world where everyone is connected and moving at a breakneck pace. We motor through the drive-thru windows, text message our family and friends, never get lost because we have GPS systems and we manage to compact all of our data into a device that can fit in the palm of our hand. Some folks even check their email while in the bathroom!

The point is that today's web users need that same instant fix - getting in, finding what they want, and leaving. The bottom line, your web site should be prepared to deliver.

One common misconception is that user's take the time to read a web page. The typical web surfer rarely 'reads' a web site or web page, or for that matter even takes the time out to really ooh and ah over it. Think of your own web browsing habits; if you need specific information or a service you hit the site, scan it for key words, get what you need and bail out.

The phrase "less is more" seems to fit today's delivery of information.

So whether you are planning a new site or rebuilding your current one, think of how you want to deliver the content and structure your navigation. Focus on fast delivery, clean navigation and ensure everyone knows the services you offer.
